For over four decades, we have been committed to delivering high-quality construction projects for our clients. From apartments, athlete accommodation, technical infrastructure facilities, heritage and earthquake strengthening, to hospital re-fits, classrooms, and high-end houses, we provide specialist services that few construction companies can. At all times, our focus has been on a quality that is second to none; however, our clients consider our reliability, length of service, and collective experience to be some of our greatest strengths. As a family-owned and operated company, we occupy a unique position in the marketplace.

Our scale allows us to incorporate a range of skilled specialists within our team while remaining agile and responsive. We are proud of our extensive experience in both the private and public sectors.

Commitment to Environment

At Lobell Construction, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to protecting and enhancing environmental well-being across all our projects by reducing waste, controlling emissions, and improving resource efficiency.

Our sustainability initiatives include:

  • Waste Reduction & Recycling: We recycle construction waste and scrap metal, encourage contractors to reuse offcuts, and ensure all site waste is removed in approved bins by registered waste management providers.
  • Low-Carbon Practices: We incorporate fly ash into concrete to reduce carbon emissions and prioritise the use of carbon-neutral or low-carbon products wherever possible.
  • Smart Logistics: Staff are allocated close to worksites to minimise travel, and carpooling is promoted to reduce transport-related emissions.
  • Responsible Material Sourcing: All timber used is sourced from sustainable forestry within New Zealand.
  • Dust & Sediment Control: We use commercial vacuums, telescopic poles, plastic sheeting, sticky pads, and silt runoff avoidance systems to manage dust and sediment, especially in live environments.
  • Water Protection: Measures are taken to prevent cement washdown and sediment from entering stormwater systems.
  • Site Safety & Cleanliness: Open fires are prohibited, food scraps are disposed of appropriately, and asbestos is handled by certified specialists.
  • Worker Wellbeing: Our PPE includes anti-vibration gloves for tasks involving prolonged use of vibrating machinery.
  • Energy Efficiency: Where design is required, we develop and implement low-energy use systems.

All activities are governed by our Environmental Policy and Green Star certification, ensuring that every site is left in the same or better condition than when we began.

Commitment to Wellbeing

For us, sustainability is not only about the buildings we construct, but also about the people who make them possible. Construction is a demanding industry for long hour, physical work, and complex problem-solving. That’s why we place such strong emphasis on supporting the health, safety, and wellbeing of our team.

We’ve built a workplace culture that priorities balance, care, and opportunity, ensuring our staff are equipped not only with the right tools, but also the support they need to thrive.

Our well-being initiatives include:

  • Balanced Work Hours– Monitoring hours to reduce fatigue and maintain a safe, healthy workload.
  • Medical Insurance – After 3 Months of Employment
  • Wellbeing & Rehabilitation Support – Access to Skills Consulting Group and Instep’s Employee Assistance Programme for counselling, rehabilitation, and personal support.
  • Health Monitoring – Annual checks for hearing, lung function, and vision to help prevent issues before they arise.
  • Financial Guidance – BNZ’s financial health checks and budgeting support to help staff plan for their future.
  • Comprehensive Health Insurance – Provided after three months of employment, covering treatments and surgeries that make a real difference.
  • Culture & Connection – Celebrating Matariki, Raksha Bandhan, and hosting regular team events to strengthen workplace community.
  • Practical Support – interest-free tool accounts for on-site staff, ensuring access to quality gear and essential equipment.
  • Apprentice Development – Targeted training and reporting to place trainees on sites where they’ll gain the best learning opportunities.

By investing in our people, we create a stronger, safer, and more sustainable business one that values long-term wellbeing as much as long-term results.

Commitment to Community

Sustainability also means making a positive impact beyond the worksite. At Lobell Construction, we’re proud to give back to the communities we live in and work in through sponsorship and support of a wide range of organisations and initiatives.

We’ve supported groups such as:

Going Bananas Show(Brain Injury Children's Trust)
Special Children's Christmas Party
Rotary Club
Heart Foundation
Mental Health Foundation
NZ Police Guild

In addition to community sponsorships, we are committed to caring for the environments in which we work. Our environmental practices ensure that grounds and facilities are always left in the same condition or better than when we arrive.

Building a Sustainable Future

At Lobell, sustainability is built on three pillars: our people, our communities, and our environment. By caring for each of these, we ensure that the legacy of our work goes beyond the structures we build — creating long-lasting benefits for those who live, work, and play in them.
