Recladding an existing building can pose myriad challenges, but the complete reworking of five two-bedroom homes was something that Lobell Construction relished.
The project manager and the team “got stuck in and thoroughly enjoyed” bringing the apartments, deemed to be “write-offs”, back to life.
The apartments were built without a cavity and had leaked badly over the years, but Lobell offered a price to gut and rebuild all five.
The team started with one double unit to get a feel for the scope, and once they understood what was required, they scaffolded and wrapped it, before demolition work began on the remaining buildings. A new cavity and plastic weatherboard system was installed in all of the homes, resulting in a sharp look that’s easy to clean.
Numerous overlapping powder-coated flashings from all angles provide a fail-safe system to prevent vulnerable points from leaking. The clients are extremely pleased with the outcome – attractive, water-tight homes. They are not the only ones.
From a morale and results perspective, Lobell found the transformative project highly satisfying and successful.
